Why Saxifrage ?

 

The Latin saxifrage (Saxifraga oppositifolia) is literally «stone-breaker.» This small plant grows between rock cracks at the highest peaks of the Alps, 3500 m above sea level. According to legend, when it fully develops, it can even shatter rocks. This fragile but resilient flower not only survives but blooms in the most extreme conditions. Gathering water and poor nutrients it resists up to -50 C degrees, cold and dry wind, and burning sunlight with highly damaging UV rays.
